My Story
From Broadcasting to Real Estate
Real estate wasn’t the original plan.
After moving from Hamilton to Ottawa, Rich studied Television Broadcasting at Algonquin College and went on to work in television as a videographer, producer, and director. Over the years, that meant leading production crews, managing live broadcasts, solving problems under pressure, and helping younger people develop their own careers in the industry.
It was rewarding work, but starting a family changed the way Rich thought about money, security, and the future.
Rather than depend entirely on a career and a paycheque, he began building a real estate portfolio and learning everything he could about investing.
That interest quickly became something much bigger.
Rich became actively involved in Ottawa’s real estate investment community, including serving as president of the Ottawa Real Estate Investors Organization and helping establish the Ottawa chapter of the Real Estate Investment Network.
More importantly, the years that followed provided hands-on experience across a wide range of real estate strategies, including renovations, flips, rent-to-own, buy-and-hold properties, financing structures, and partnerships with other investors.
That experience shaped a simple philosophy:
Good real estate investing is not just about buying property. It is about recognizing opportunity, understanding the numbers, structuring the deal properly, and creating an outcome that works for everyone involved.
Today, Rich continues to invest while working with people who want to participate in real estate in different ways.
For some, that means putting capital to work as a lender or equity partner. For others, it means learning how to evaluate opportunities, understand risk, structure deals, and become more confident investors themselves.
The goal is not to convince people that every real estate deal is a good one.
It is to help them understand what makes a good opportunity worth pursuing.
Rich has also written and spoken about real estate investing and has been published in CREW Magazine, The REIN Report, and The Ottawa Sun.
